There are so many reasons why women should love strength training, but I narrowed it down to just 5. Strength training has my heart so this was very hard for me! Ok here we go!
#5-Strength training is better for your bones and joints
Strength training stimulates the remodeling of bone resulting in strong dense bones. It also strengthens muscles which provide more support joints and bones reducing the strain and impact on the joints.
Lastly, keeping your joints moving keeps them lubricated preventing arthritis pain.
#4-Women who lift weights not only get slim and sexy but they also get STRONG!
A strong woman is a sexy woman. Women can be strong and not manly or bulky. In fact that's what the entire message behind my online personal training business Fitnique is. Proving that women will not get bulky by lifting weights.
If getting bulky happened so easy, why would bodybuilders have to work so hard at it?! Strength training builds lean muscle and to change the composition of your muscles you have to change the chemical makeup of you body. Women don't produce enough testosterone naturally to get anywhere close to a man's body type.
Being slim, and strong is the sexiest combo for a woman's body and in no way is it bulky or manly!
#3-You don't have to work out as long!
This may vary for some people, but for many just doing a 25 minute weight workout 3-4 times a week is plenty to get to and maintain a healthy body weight. Most of my workouts are 25 minutes or less and because I change the exercises every 3 weeks I never plateau and can always get my workout in quick.
I typically do superset format, meaning 4 total sets and each set is comprised of 3 supersets. What's a superset? It's the magical way that I can get my workouts in so quick! 2 exercises back to back then a rest. Thats a superset. Do 3 of those per set and do 4 sets and DONE! Having this format keeps your heart rate up, works your muscles more and keeps you focused preventing distractions that can otherwise delay your workout.
#2-Strength training can be done in your house even if you live in an apartment or small area!
All you need is a couple light sets of weight or resistance bands...sometimes just your bodyweight!
You don't have to jump up and down or have a large area to move around in. I live in an apartment so I love strength training because I can use my weights and not disturb my neighbor below me. I can utilize things in my home such as the coffee table or even outdoor steps to do some exercises.
#1-Lose weight faster
That's right...lose weight faster! Every woman's favorite reason to do strength training! The process of rebuilding muscle after a strength workout burns more calories and burns them faster than cardio alone. Your body also continues this fat burning process log after your strength workout so you are burning fat while you sleep!
Many people who struggle with weight loss when doing just cardio exercises see weight loss drastically increase when they add strength training to their regimen.
